Our Moderator

Dr. Dwight D. Townsend Sr.now in his twelfth year of service as Senior Pastor of Longley Baptist Church has led the church to many great heights through transformative preaching, ministry development, ministry revitalization, church infrastructure upgrades and financial improvements. He continues to lead Longley, by the grace of God, to even higher heights. Longley has grown from a membership of 600 to over 2700, to the glory of God, and is vastly becoming a beacon light in the Southwest Little Rock area.   

Pastor Townsend’s 22 years of ministry and civic leadership includes the Consolidated Missionary Baptist State Convention of Arkansas, Arkansas State Board of Health, and Arkansas Advocates for Children & Families to name a few.  

Pastor Townsend makes history by becoming the youngest person to ever be elected as moderator of the Union District Baptist Association at the age of 41. His education includes degrees from Slidell Baptist Seminary, Andersonville Theological Seminary and he is presently a seminarian at Luther Rice College & Seminary.   

He is married to the former Glomicha Michelle Perkins. He and Mrs. Townsend are the proud parents of two children: Dacimber and D. J. 

Pastor Townsend purposes to lead the Union District with integrity and innovation as he stands on the shoulders of the great leaders of its past. His motto is, “Leadership through Service and Synergy”.
